Lower column mount
Now that my cab is back in place and hopefully not going to move again I started playing with column and pedal placement. I had to move my brake assembly over and up a tad and I need to figure put how to mount the column. I've been looking for pictures and ideas, I'm thinking of having the cover put on the engine side of the firewall and using an inside mount. I don't have much room for a mount on the engine side, it's pretty tight between engine and firewall.
So... 1950 3100. 1970 column. I got the cover, rusty piece, from an 84 c10. I also took the brake pedal assembly, gas pedal and e brake from the 84 too. I cut a hole in the firewall similar to the c10s for the column to fit through. I need to mount the lower part of the column and cover the hole I think the piece I got should work with a gasket though. What have you guys done? Any suggestions or ideas?

Re: Lower column mount
One way I've done it is to weld a 3"-long tube into the floor that the lower column slip fits into, then screw a screw into that which secures the column. Here's a blurry photo:

Re: Lower column mount
I'm doing something similar using a 91 column. I figure I'm just going to use that factory piece inside the cab. Going to have to cut it off the column and shape of to work. Hopefully it works but I'll be watching this thread as I'm probably going to mess with it in a few days

Re: Lower column mount
I needed an oblong hole to accommodate installing a column with an arm for the shift linkage. I left the factory opening and made a plate to support the column at the firewall.

I did a column shift like yours matt and used that same mount you are thinking of. using the stock mount plate would have needed the piece of donor firewall too, its not a flat mount. you CAN weld any time of flat mount you want to it though. remember to keep the firewall hole big enough to let the linkage come through.
