Jegs Steering Columns Anyone use em?

Hey Guys,

I'm eyeing a new steering column to replace my 3ott since I switched to a 5 speed t5. for $300ish out the door with chrome, turn signals, hazards, use my stock wheel, and tilt, it sounds good, but I haven't seen much on the web with people using them. There is no way I will spend $1k for a floor shift, basic tilt column. Anyways it seems like it might mate up to my intermediate shaft (off an 86) to my steering box. Not sure about the dash mount part though. My wipers are still on the dash (76) and I don't mind relocating my hi beams back to the floor. Curious if anyone has used them.

I'm going to assume it's the standard issue chinese column. The Australian government wrote up a nice paper outlining why they are terrible. I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks for the feedback, I pulled the trigger and will see how this works. Jegs was very informative on the phone, but could not tell me the manufac name. I'm ok taking the gamble. Ill report back and share my findings on it's quality etc.

Re: Jegs Steering Columns Anyone use em?

Just got the column mocked up yesterday. The DD fit into the existing intermediate shaft very snug. Driled a hole in it to install the stock carriage bolt and nut. Used the existing firewall hardware and cover for the base. I'm still thinking how best to do the dash mount. It almost looks like I could drill/tap the housing for the 4 bolts that stabilize the column from rotating using the stock bracket, but I'm not sure. I'd almost hate to drI'll through the housing and or screw up internals.

Time will tell how things work out but for less than 300 bucks it seems to work for my purposes. Just have to install my floor hi beam switch and use my dash wiper controls. Everything else connected just fine.

Re: Jegs Steering Columns Anyone use em?

So came across an issue on the column that I think I should be able to overcome. The ignition switch is hitting the clutch rod. I think I can just trim the ignition rod and resell 2 holes for the switch and move it close to the dash. That should provide some clearance. The issue is that the new column rod works the opposite way the stock gm does. When you go to start your truck on gm, the rod is "pushed" away from you towards the switch. On this new one I got from jegs, it "pulls" the rod towards you. Effectively reversing the switch and cabling into my mechanical linkage.

Here is the switch. Notice it's on the left side and in contact with the clutch linkage.
