5 lug or 6 lug
So I'm in the process of doing a frame off on a 68 c10 swb, the suspension was originally a 6 lug setup. Everything is gonna be replaced, whether I go 5 or stay with 6, (except rear axles). My question is, what would be the better deal 5 or 6 lug? The truck is gonna be lowered and have a 600hp sbc in it, main use is gonna be driven with a little drag racing mixed in. Thanks

Re: 5 lug or 6 lug
Youll have alot more wheel choices with 5 lug...lots of drag cars running 5 lug

Re: 5 lug or 6 lug
x2 on 5 lug wheel options .
but find the wheel you like first as some models i think look better in 6 lug for the placement of the rim design and lug holes. i have seen a few over the years were this would have been a great option for a fine detail . and if going late model rim take off stuff there 6 lug also .

Re: 5 lug or 6 lug
Was thinking almost like a classic crater style wheel, but in either 16 or 17"

Re: 5 lug or 6 lug
I would not get 16's, the tire selection is limited unless you're doing a 4x4. I think it's even worse than if you had 15's. 17's is the way to go, maybe even larger.

Re: 5 lug or 6 lug
5 lug seems to be the answer... I like a lot of the rims I have seen in 5 lug better then 6

Re: 5 lug or 6 lug
Add another vote for 5 lug. There are some 6 lug rims out there but most have a pilot hole that is too small to fit on the older trucks.

Re: 5 lug or 6 lug
5x5 (OE truck) will have a lot of wheel choices compared to the 6 luggers.
5x4.75 (OE car) will have even more. |

Re: 5 lug or 6 lug
I read your post again and "everything will be replaced but the axles". Not sure what that means, but if you are REALLY making 600hp, 35 spline (33 at minimum) axles should be on your shopping list regardless of how many lugs you go with.
But again, 6 lug drastically limits your wheel choice.

Re: 5 lug or 6 lug
A truck 12 bolt stock is borderline strong enough at 400 WHP IMO. Look into a 6 lug semi-float 14 bolt if you want to stay 6 lug. They have 33 spline axles and a 9.5" ring gear. Significantly stronger than a truck 12 bolt.

Re: 5 lug or 6 lug
I have actually decided to go with a the no limit rear fat bar 4 link and a 9" I believe. And also gonna do the no limit wide front end. Which will convert the truck to 5 lug.. thanks for the ideas guys
