What am I missing here? Reproduction '67 exterior door handles
This is probably the easiest question ever posted on the board, but wanted to run it by you guys to make sure I'm not nuts.
I have some replacement handles from Brothers for my ’67 c10 that I am just now getting around to getting installed since there’s snow on the ground and have a question about them. It seems they line up with the holes in my door, but my original handles have straight tapped holes in the back and the two tapped holes in the replacements are drilled and tapped at an angle. The mounting surface is flat on my door instead of angled, so would lead to an un parallel mating surface also. Was there a change to these at some point, did I get a bad batch, or what am I missing here? I couldn't even get the bolts started in the holes. ***I looked around at others, and it looks like they are made the same way with angled tapped holes. Thanks in advance! For the money ,the replacement handles look great, it just leaves me scratching my head on how to mount them up though. Attached are a few pictures of what I am talking about and my truck they’re going on. |

Yep 67 is different than 68-72. Your 67 doors will have plates inside the doors to strengthen the area and provide a base for the screws. 68-72 just screw thru the panels. You can use those but I think you have to remove the inside plate. The inner panel is different as well.

Since I have found so many weird thing on my ’67 I was wondering about the door handles and doors. Is there any way to tell what year they are from looking at the outside view?

Not that I could ever tell. Only difference I could see was the angle of the screw holes. I figured this out years ago when I did my '67. Had the '67 only handle part number, and was able to find some NOS ones.

Thanks. Well I eventually have to take door panel off anyway to fix the latch and the fact you can't lock the door, I guess if I see that backing plate at least Ill know the doors are real!

Re: What am I missing here? Reproduction '67 exterior door handles
I pulled the door panels off my ’67 C10 today and discovered I have two different doors. The passenger side is a ’67 because it has the handle reinforcement plate but the driver side does not. The PO put new door handles on both doors. He used a large nut and small washer as a spacer to allow the actual nut to hold the handle correctly. I switched out the larger nut for a trimmed to fit thick washer which makes it much easier to attach.
Just one of the many weird things I am finding the PO did on this truck.
