Ask the experts, Very stiff manual window
My 66 c10 has a very stiff drivers side window, It had the regulator and window felt/rubber replaced, before I brought it. I tried to adjust with vent window guide no good. So I purchased new regulator and all window rubbers from brothers. (my thinking was wrong reg or rubbers). I replaced the reg. and the rubber that runs along the top of window channel. Its better but still very stiff. All the wheel tracks are in very good shape. The vent window channel still has the original, so if I put new in ,I think it will make things worst. One question is do all 1966 windows have a metal frame around it? I keep thinking the rubbers/felt is to tight on the metal frames. All the rubbers came in Precision packaging. which I believe is good stuff.
Thanks in advance for ANY help Jim |

Re: Ask the experts, Very stiff manual window
My 1966 and my '64 have no metal frames around the windows. I thought that was only for pre '63 trucks. Someone once told me that the advent of tempered glass negated the frames.

My '66 has no metal frame around the side glass and I've never seen one that did.

Thanks, for taking the time to answer, My gut told me that was the problem, Is there a good glass place most use or do most just go in their local area?

Re: Ask the experts, Very stiff manual window
You can buy new windows from the usual vendors (LMC, Brother's etc). They come in soft-ray green or clear. Beware though because framed windows also used a different weatherstrip. Hopefully looking at their catalogs will help you figure out what's going on. Maybe post a pic of your window and weatherstrip up on this thread too since you apparently have an oddball on your hands.

Hi Jim . The 64-66 Chevy and GMC Pickups come with two styles of side windows . The unframed side windows I run across are usually in the pickup (BUT NOT ALWAYS ) The framed window are usually in a big truck (But NOT AlWAYS . I am not sure what kind of option it was . Maybe some of the numbers people will chime in. Thinking that metal frame thickness may be just enough to cause your windows to bind up. I just checked Bowtie Bits website. They sell a window channel kit 64-66 . In the description they specify it is for the non framed windows. Last edited by paulspickupparts; 02-13-2019 at 08:32 PM. Reason: Addition |

Re: Ask the experts, Very stiff manual window
Deluxe windows had the frames. My 60 1/2 ton had them.
