What is this bracket on the frame?

I'm at work and I should have a picture to ask this but I noticed on my bare frame there is a bracket riveted to it on the ds just above the top shock mount. I bought the truck disassembled.

Z-bar pivot bracket perhaps.

Re: What is this bracket on the frame?

I’ll take a pic when I’m at home. If it’s for a clutch I don’t need it.

That's strange. Before I saw the picture I was thinking it was this bracket. I thought all trucks had it as I thought it was used to hoist the frame on the assembly line. It's bolted on while the OPs bracket is riveted. Looks to be the same hole spacing too.

That bracket is for the torque strap cable to loop through.
The torque strap was used to limit motor movement if the motor mount broke. Mount breaking was a common thing back then. The motor would torque up over to the passenger side. The carb linkage being a solid link rod caused the motor to rev up quite high. Caused a full throttle runaway.
The strap was an easy cure at the time.

Ah yes, I'm familiar with these cables on Camaros. So it isn't a factory item? More like a recall?

Likely could be both a factory installation and a possible recall. I don’t remember if they had recall’s back then.
I do remember the thrill of the 283 in my 59 Chevy wagon the time it flopped straight over and went full throttle.

Re: What is this bracket on the frame?

In Camaro's it was definately a recall in the early 70's. My '68 327 did it about 1973 and the dealership put a cable on it as a recall.

I don't know about on these trucks tho.
