Front roller wheel bearings with car hubs
When running 49-54 passenger car hubs and brakes on the front do you just use the 49-54 Passenger car bearings? I am looking to order roller bearings and they say that the truck and the car use different ones.

Re: Front roller wheel bearings with car hubs
For the 48 truck the National outer ball bearing set is a
B01 Bore 0.7498" Outer Diameter 2.0805" Width 0.713" The iner bearing set is a B52 Bore 1.281" Outer Diameter 2.963" Width 1.15" The 54 Car set is Outer = B01 Inner B52 This is from Rock Auto. I thought that the first time I did the brake swap on my 48 I had to swap the inner Race but that was 1973 and my truck was a mix match of parts and may have had 1940 ot earlier spindles on it.

Re: Front roller wheel bearings with car hubs
Hmmm, I have the later truck spindles, 51-54? I'll just wait until my spindles get here with my axle and stick the old bearings on it and confirm. But it sounds like it's not different. I wonder why when I looked it up on eBay when I put truck in it said they wouldn't fit.

Re: Front roller wheel bearings with car hubs
Those are truck, are they the same with passenger car hubs? This is the thing, here is the set I am looking at. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Western-Cha...sAAOSwU1FaANvr
I will have my axle and spindles tomorrow (at least that is what the tracking says) and I will put the hubs on with the stock bearings I kept when I pulled the 49-54 front apart that I got the hubs from. We will see................. Brian

Are you planning on keeping the drums, or switching to disc brakes? I know brothers offers a disc brake kit with either 5 or 6 lug.

Re: Front roller wheel bearings with car hubs
Brian's truck is more old school than mine is when it comes down to brass tacks. They will probably give him a inner circle parking spot at Lone Star Roundup some day and make me park out with the 60's vans and rat rods.

Re: Front roller wheel bearings with car hubs
A five speed makes them a lot more all around driving friendly. I've got one for mine. Hopefully it will help the 292 get a bit more gas mileage as they aren't known for great gas mileage.

Re: Front roller wheel bearings with car hubs
Yeah, I have a three speed but we will see. It depends on how far I am going to be driving it when I get to Boise. If my job is close by I may stick with the three speed.

Re: Front roller wheel bearings with car hubs
Those Boise Rodders don't count miles to somewhere they calculate in hours. They will travel to a far flung event like a lot of Texas rodders will without batting an eye about the miles.
