Reverse Light installation

I am in the middle of my rewire of my 1965 that did not come with reverse/backup lights. I am thinking about installing a set...but have a couple of questions.

I am installing a Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed. It has a 2 wire pigtail wiring harness for backup lights. In my head, all I need to do is wire the backup lights to the pigtail..(one to the backup lights and one to a hot wire) so when I go in reverse the switch inside tells the transmission that it is in reverse and that the backup lights to come on...Am I thinking correctly?

Yes. That will work. Make sure you put a fuse inline before the switch

When I had my T5, I took the factory hot wire for the reverse lights (factory option on my 66) and ran that to the switch and ran the other wire to the reverse lights, I think. I haven't had them working yet and wanted to redo the wiring with my T56 in hopes that I have working reverse lights.

Your option sounds much more simple!

Thanks...a fuse on the "hot" side I assume? What size do you think?

I would say a 15amp would be plenty.
