Exhausted

What are you guys doing with your exhaust systems? I'm stuck looking at pages of c10 exhaust kits wondering which ones are junk, which ones are acceptable, or even if a kit is the right way to go. Maybe a builders bend pack, and mufflers from summit? Or just take the damn truck to master muffler. If anyone has installed pics, it would help out tremendously. Thanks.

Re: Exhausted

I had Rusbuilt make my exhaust from a stainless builder's kit. Of course, My TCI Engineering suspension made a few hurdles that required such a setup. Not to mention the fact my engine breathes soooo much better with the mandrel bends compared to the exhaust shop bends. He also used Deadend Garage crossmember cutouts to run it inside the framerails. As you can see from two of the photos, the exhaust doesn't hang below the frame anywhere.

Re: Exhausted

You may be more likely to determine the best route to take by creating a list of qualities and characteristics you want the end result to possess. Do you have aftermarket parts (i.e. lowered suspension, frame mounted fuel tank, wide rear wheels/tires etc...) on your truck that you need your exhaust to be able accommodate? Do you want a stainless steel system and if so do you want it to be 304SS or would 409SS be acceptable to you? Are mandrel bends a requirement for you, or would you be OK with muffler shop produced compression bent tubes? Answering these types of questions for yourself and posting them here will net you some more comprehensive answers to your question I believe.

Re: Exhausted

Build one.

This is one for an AD truck with an IRS, so the exhaust mounts under the diff. 2.5" mild steel mandrel bends from Columbia River Mandrel Bends and inexpensive Thrush turbo mufflers from Summit. About $200 in material. Double this if you want stainless.

On the floor ready to install

Installed

Re: Exhausted

Unless you are doing a swap that uses a kit and has recommended parts I would have one made. I did this one on my brother's Nova for $40 in scrap stainless and a set of Blackwidow mufflers. Sounds great.

Here is my custom exhaust on my truck. I used one of those spinny muffler things.

Re: Exhausted

I ended up getting a thrush kit from summit racing. I had to modify it a bit to fit my headers, but overall I am really happy with the note, and fitment. Thanks to everyone who replied, your trucks are works of art.

Re: Exhausted

not sure of your desired level of doneness if you are the stainless steel everything needs to be shinny and tig welded, or if you are like me and want it to be strong and sound amazeballz, so I went to Pick N Pull and yanked a bunch of Silverado 2500 3/4 ton truck intermediate pipes and two sets of Suburban over the axle tail pipes (yes I had to flip one to make it exit on the driver side) lots of cuts, lots of welding, lots of work, but man it sounds so good, oh running duals all the way with Magnaflow mufflers, no headers (just Holley 2.5" cast iron manifolds) no X pipe no H pipe (too old for that nonsense, ha ha)
