Engine harness, bulkhead, power circuit protection
I'm trying to get this right the first time. I did some searching on this and this is the best diagram I could come up with. I am no wiring expert and really want to understand this.
What I have come up with is I need protection between the battery and alternator and protection between battery and bulkhead, and protection between battery and engine harness. My info: I have a LM7 LS swap with the original harness cut down to a standalone harness. I will be doing a battery relocation to passenger side frame rail So, will this work? - Battery and Alternator = 100amp Circuit Breaker - Battery and Bulkhead/Engine Harness = 80amp Circuit Breaker - Battery and Engine Harness(LS) - 50amp - Battery and Starter = FORD Solenoid (1989 mustang style) The LS Harness is my biggest question here. Does it need to be on a separate circuit breaker or should I combine that with the 80amp going to truck bulkhead? Here is a similar wiring diagram I found.

Is your AAW harness new? It should have instructions on how to wire all that in, except for the LS harness. On my dad's swap, we powered the LS harness with the accessory circuits from the AAW harness. I don't know if you have those circuits as spares, but if you do they can be used. I am planning on doing the same with mine. What you have to do is figure out which circuits are constant hot and which are switched and connect the LS wires accordingly.

Yeah I will have new AAW harness. Plan to power ls harness with clean power direct from battery(constant+), then key hot from AAW harness/ignition. But my biggest question here is how to protect all my circuits.
alt to battery - fuse or circuit breaker? What size? battery to distribution block(feeds for engine harness and aaw harness - fuse or circuit breaker? What size? did i leave anything out? I am imagining something similar to the above diagram. I will have a power and ground distribution block in the engine bay to connect everything I will need and for future expansion.

I take it you do that I have a wiring harness yet from AAW This is the kit that I got it comes with mega fuses For battery alternator everything as well as your main fuse panel

So I haven't used AAW but Painless the chassis wiring harness in my LS swaps. Battery to main stud on the starter 00 welding cable not the crap cable found at most parts stores.
Then from the starter to the alternator 2 or 4 gauge wire again fine wire cable not chain store junk. I get mine from NAPA. No fuse or ciruit breaker. Painless recommends a 12volt wire directly from the battery to 12 volt constant to the ecm. Your Ls harness should have a fuse to protect the ecm. The Painless chassis harness has 60 amp "Maxie" fuse to protect the chassis harness. The chassis harness and the LS ecm harness should be separate other than providing 12 volt to the LS harness. |

Here's my highly technical drawings, lol. I got most of it from an 08 Silverado at the wreckers for $20. I used a group 47 battery so the cables fit nicely.
If you go with the kill switch in your drawings you'll have to reset your clock and preset radio stations all the time, if applicable. |

Well this thread is pretty old now, but I see I never came back and updated this post. I ended up building my own PDU and built from scratch my power and ground routing. The following diagram was the final drawing I made and followed but later I removed the engine bay jump posts and power cable. I'm going to build a connector that attaches to battery and one end of jump cables will have the other end of that connector. But for all the detail go check out my build thread in my signature.

Oh and the reason I removed the jump studs in engine bay is because I found you can't put a circuit breaker or fuseable link on that power wire for protection because when you go to jump a really low battery, it will pop that sucker rendering it useless. And without protection on that large gauge battery cable your just asking for trouble. Burn the truck down trouble.
