Hydroboost
Have one off a chevy astro van.
Are they all the same in terms of ports (small/large) postition and function. Guess Im not aware why there is a 16mm and an 18mm on both the hydroboost and the steering geer ..... versus just 16mm for example. I think they are all high pressure lines except return. Guess also on the R&P gear ..... which is the inlet and outlet.
Same as diagram ? This style. https://tinyurl.com/yxnp7r5e I read somewhere that inlet for the high pressure side on boost is always on side of accumulator. Not sure on the R&P side. Main reason - ordering lines (JIC) and need to see if they have an 18mm on each end or a mix of 18mm and 16mm ...... which I think is the case.

Im 95% sure that they each connect to a 16mm and an 18mm and route like nelow eg **HIGH** 1) 16mm from PS pump out to the accumulator side 18mm high pressure port. 2) Then 16mm out of the other side of hydroboost to a 18mm port on the steering R&P. **LOW** Final line is a low pressure/return from both the hydroboost spitter port as well as the smaller 16mm port on the R&P .... teed back into the return on PS pump. So like this.

Diagram and description are correct. Pump --> 18mm on HB. 16mm on HB --> pressure port on Rack/box. Return from rack/box --> cooler (if used) or pump.
I believe only reason for different size fittings is to prevent careless mechanic from crossing lines. Original HB systems have a separate return to the pump body for the HB return line. I have used a Tee but it seemed like pressing the brake during a turn would cause steering assist to drop momentarily. Either way I would recommend a cooler before the return gets to the pump. HB can create a bunch of heat. |

Is the pressure line on the Rack/box the 16mm or the 18mm ?

here are a couple of pics from GM. maybe help.
a cooler would be a good idea. some guys will use a cooler from a stock vehicle that is long and narrow to fit their needs. the return line is lower pressure. I have several from an envoy that should work for my ps cooler. maybe under the rad support to catch some wind out of the way of the rad. a trip to the wrecker would come up with some possibilities for an OEM style, a trans cooler would work but are usually a square affair so mounting locations get smaller due to size and sometimes there gets to be a lot of stuff in front of the rad giving off heat and restricting air flow to the rad. google power steering cooler and you will come up with all sorts of options like below. some vehicles simply have a loop of steel line without even any fins on the line. there is also the option of remote mounted cooler, alongside the frame somewhere convenient, with an electric cooling fan installed. https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-918-30.../dp/B0083H5V92 https://www.summitracing.com/int/par...QaAilhEALw_wcB |
