Help Water Problems
Help I just wrote a forum about how good my truck was running! but I just drove it in the rain and had BIG problems! I need help figuring out what the problem is. I had just washed my truck before it rained and hosed all of the dirt off of the engine, I don't think that I got anything to wet but who knows? and then it rained pretty hard. When I started it it ran pretty rough and the more I went the more it backfired. Well when I got to my destination it just stopped running, about an hour later I went back and poured some in the carb. and it cranked right up and ran GREAT all the way home?? What is up with that? I have upgraded from points to electronic ign. by the flamethrower kit. and have an open element Edelbrock aircleaner with K&N filter

It sounds like she got wet.....pull the dist cap, & RTV it to the dist, then get out some good hair spray(like the gals used in the 70's)....yes , i remember that! shoot the cap & wires down with the spray, & try that rain trick again Best of luck, crazyL

When I first bought my truck I took it to the car wash and washed the engine / compartment. I wrapped a plastic bag around the carb & dizzy and carefully washed away..... after I was done (let it drip dry in the bay, as there was no one behind me waiting) I went to start it and it turned over and over and would not start, I was lucky enough to have a 10 bay GM service shop next to the carwash and talked to my buddy (GM mechanic) and he loaned me his battery terminal cleaning tool so I did both terminals and vroooom, vroooom. The odd thing was when I pulled the battery cables off the terminals to clean them they looked OK. Later Doug

Squirt a little wd-40 in the dizzy cap, it displaces the water that is causing a short circuit.

WD-40, short for Water Displacement, Formula 40. Originally designed to offset water, for use on the Atlas Missle project.
