Re: Post Your Wheel and Tire Combo

Sorry I don't have great pictures yet. My truck isn't finished.
Its sitting on 15x10 cragars with 3.5 inch backspace and 275/60r15 on the rear and 15x7 front with 4 inch backspace and 225/70 r15 tires. Speedway mustang ii, 2 inch drop spindles and TCI leaf spring rear with an 84 grand prix rear end.

Re: Post Your Wheel and Tire Combo

Trying to identify a good 16” tire for my truck. Will have 16x8 in front and 16x9 out back. Looking at a 60 series tire but seems to be not much available after you get past 235. Seems to be an oddball size I’ve worked into.

Anybody have a set of 235/60r16 on a TF truck? Any on a 9” wide rim? Curious to see what that tire looks like as I’ve never had 16” rims.

Re: Post Your Wheel and Tire Combo

Our 51 GMC sporting factory 16" wheels with what we believe are period aftermarket smooth beauty rings. They were on the truck when we bought it but, 3 of the 4 were pretty rusted. After sandblasting they were various stages of metal and lace. I packed one around the Portland swap meet for several years but never found a match. I eventually decided the only way to save them was to fiberglass them front and back. A big shout of thanks to my friend Bob and crew at Superior Performance for finishing them to perfection.

once I called an ad that had some dog dish caps for $5 ea, he had sold the ones I wanted but I bought a cap that looked like a 39 cap but had a big outer ring like yours. I bought it because I had never seen one like it before and thats when you buy things. I put it on the auction site and it sold for over $300, the guy who bought it said he needed one for his master deluxe 39 chevy and had been looking for TWENTY YEARS for one. good job fixing yours!

so this isnt just a story post, here is my latest 49 with 15x6 steel wheels and 64 bel air poverty caps.

Re: Post Your Wheel and Tire Combo

I probably looked one of those in the three or four years I combed the swap meet looking for a match to mine. I had a couple different old guys tell me they were 50's vintage aftermarket pieces. I would like to find a Speedway Motors catalog or some such other catalog from back in the day to see if I can find them.
I have 3 or 4 other ones I bought hanging in the garage that don't fit, I wonder if someone will give $300 for them?

maybe! mine was a master deluxe 1939 hubcap, it had a pattern in the extra ring not smooth and was a rare factory option, do some research, I bet you will be pleasantly surprised. everyone tried to steal mine, I started the auction at a buck, got a lot of "hey its really beat up I will give you 5-10-20-30-40-50 etc bucks" but I kept the auction up and that was the result. THe guyu who bought it was so happy he sent me a christmas card!

Re: Post Your Wheel and Tire Combo

The Fronts are 18X8.50 with 4.5 backspacing 5X4.75 bolt pattern.
The Rears are 18X9.5 with 5.25 back spacing 5X4.75 bolt pattern.
On the rears if you are running the Camaro rear end 60", wheel mount to wheel mount, you need 4.25 back spacing... that took some time and effort to figure out!!!
I'm going with a Ford 9 inch so it wasn't important to me, but I bought some one inch spacers and my wheels fit perfectly! Also the stock tires are 27 inches tall so I did tubular control arms with 1 1/2 inch shorter springs and 2 inch drop spindles.
The fenders have not been rolled and the bed doesn't rub!
