How do you remove the head light knob? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm trying to remove the console cover and I can't figure out how to remove the head light knob. The wiper knob was easy as it had a screw...but there's nothing apparent on the head light knob...any help would be greatly appreciated.

reach behind the dash and up on top the light switch is a spring loaded button. Pull the switch out,to the headlights on position then depress the button on top the switch and pull out the knob and rod.

thanks for the quick reply...that did the trick...well at least it got the knob out...i guess i thought from there it would be easy to remove the console but it wasn't so i didn't.

basically all i was hoping to do was grease the speedo cable (it bounces and I think it might be because it's dry) and try to figure out why my odometer isn't working. If any of you have tips on removing the speedometer i'm all hears...

heh, this is definatley somthin to remember, just about every chevy with the pull out style light knob is exactly the same. My truck is the 3rd one I've had to do this with hehe. go figure, I always hafta take that assembly out for 1 reason or another.

You should have to remove the cluster to lube the speed cable just reach up unscrew it from the speedo,the pull out the little cable.I use a permatex graphite gease crap(youll get it all over you hands-wear plastic gloves).nothing more irratating than a bouncy needle in my opinion,id rather it not work at all,but just one of those things.

Something to remember when u take your head light switch out is to make sure u turn your lights off after u get the switch out or u will be getting the jumper cables out.

another good idea is to disconnect your battery, because if you pull out the cluster and happen to touch any bare metal with the voltmeter terminal you'll fry the printed circuit, i speak from experience thank god i had a spare printed circuit they ain't cheap.

WOW! this is good info, to bad for me it's too late!! I took a pair of vise grips and mauled the lightswitch handle off it's post to be able to remove the dash cluster! Believe you me, I TRIED to figure out how the knob came off, without destroying it. I sometimes have a VERY short fuse, which for some unknown (yeah right) reason, things tend to break when I've reached the limits! All in all, I intend to replace it. Now I know how to get it off though! Also, I never disconnected my battery when removing the cluster, guess I was lucky not to fry anything! Next time I will disconnect it though. Thanks for the info guys!!
