Re: Soffseal door rubber
I put on SoffSeal on my 56. Here's a few pictures I took from the back of the door looking forward. It has a flat side which goes to the truck surface then the curved face should go inward to the cab. Hope this helps.

Re: Soffseal door rubber
I apreciate the pics. Your door seals are different that what's on the AD trucks.

Re: Soffseal door rubber
Yeah....you could be right. I think for now I'm going to stick with the 9971 SoftSeal and see how it goes.

Re: Soffseal door rubber
I just ordered my SoftSeal Door Seals. Have you had a chance to install yours yet?

Re: Soffseal door rubber
The Sofseal door seals came in last week. Played with them a little and it looks like it can be installed without removing the door, but these have peel-n-stick adhesive and I wouldn't want to try it with regular weatherstrip adhesive.
Here's the seal installed backwards from the way it should be. This photo was taken at the top of the door and you can see the seal installed this way will protrude past the lip of the door a little This is the seal installed with the correct orientation- |

Re: Soffseal door rubber
Didn't check it except for that one place.
I'll check some other spots around the door and post it up. Phil |

Re: Soffseal door rubber
According to everything i have seen. The longest edge points to the cab when closed. The “square” corners go to the corner of the door surfaces,. The photo saying the seal is correct orientation needs to be turned around, not just rolled. The peel and stick would go against the outer door edge, not on the “body” of the door

Re: Soffseal door rubber
I believe you're right - I've got it wrong. Apologies.
The lip of the door is irregular and I didn't see how the self adhesive was going to stick well. I'll take some more pictures today and post them. Correct me if I don't get it right |

Re: Soffseal door rubber
Look what came in today. Since the gaps around my doors are very tight in some areas I think I may install mine as the pic shows. Just not sure yet. I'm still not going to install them until the weather gets a little warmer.

Re: Soffseal door rubber
Grateful a few of you guys pulled me up short and told me I had it wrong.
Understand that self adhesive really works well and it would have been quite the mess if I'd have installed it wrong Raining tomorrow but should have mine in this weekend. Phil |

Re: Soffseal door rubber
Hey....it's all good. We are all here to help one another and I think I would have been lost on a lot of issues on my AD if it hadn't been for all this information and us helping each other. There is a tag in the bag that said surface temperatures below 72 degrees will affect the bond strength. I was planning on waiting til it got a little warmer anyway as the average temp around here is between 40 and 50. Let us know how it goes with your install and especially around the door hinges.

Re: Soffseal door rubber
It is from a late 50's Cadillac as is the column.
I filled all the cracks a couple years ago and primed it with Featherfill. Plan is to paint it the same color as the roof (white) and wrap the rim with leather to match the interior. |

Re: Soffseal door rubber
Having done this a couple of times with self-adhesive weatherstrip, I know that it's difficult to get it in around the hinge area, but it can be done by pushing it into place with a tool such as a 1/4" socket extension or wooden dowl.
Let us know how it goes gentlemen!

Let us know how it goes on the door seals and your opinion of the peel-N-stick seals. I just got to thinking.....The seals that go on the cab are called wind lace and the seals that go on the doors are called weather strip. Is this SoftSeal going to help with the wind noise I'm having???

Re: Soffseal door rubber
FWIW won't ever use the tube 3m and non peel n stick weatherstrip again. Soff Seal is the best if only that it installs without removing the doors and all that effort entails.

Re: Soffseal door rubber
Phil, Did you get your door seas installed over the weekend? Was on my 'to do' list but didn't get done. My bodyman looked at it and said we'd have no problem installing it without taking the doors off. His hands are normal size and mine are, well, not so normal, so he's going to do it this weekend (if we are not on lockdown) |

Re: Soffseal door rubber
Might add just taping to prevent 3m adhesive from getting all over is a PITA in and of itself. With stick on care must taken to align and install right the first time as when its stuck--- its stuck.
