Tailgate hinges

I bought new tailgate hinges a while back and finally got around to installing them but the round part that fits in the tailgate is too big. I tried them on my new one and my old one with the same result. I called the place where I bought the hinges and they swear its the right ones but they don't fit. Have any of you guys run into this problem? They tried to tell me I have the wrong tailgate but it is just like the one I took off and I am 99 percent sure the old one is original. .Any ideas? Thanks. ...RC.

Re: Tailgate hinges

Could you post a photo(s) of the trunion and your tailgate?

Re: Tailgate hinges

The hole in the tailgate measures one and one quarter inch but the new hinge measures one and one half.

Re: Tailgate hinges

Take it apart and see if the silver trunion fits. Looks like the order of the pieces is wrong.

Re: Tailgate hinges

The trunion came from Classic Parts. The tailgate came from Summit.

Re: Tailgate hinges

I got the tailgate on. I modified the hinges I had and made them work.

Re: Tailgate hinges

The tailgate appears to be aftermarket and wrong, the hinges are suppose to be 1.5"
