Ls engine alternator wiring question
I have a 69 C10 I have put a 6.0 and my first time messing with efi stuff to this extent. I have looked over the wiring in the truck and double checked the electrical diagrams in the service manual but want to ask the people who have done this before to make sure I’m on the right track.
I moved the battery to the drivers side, and removing the ammeter and external regulator.... hoping to clean up some wiring since it won’t be used. Can I remove the blue, white and brown wires completely (and de pin the brown wire from the bulk head in the firewall) cut and solder the red wire to go from the battery straight to the bulk head on the firewall (with a bnew blade style fin line fuse) and run a new say 8 gauge wire from the ls alternator to the battery? Hope that makes sense... just want to make sure I’m doing it correctly and don’t want my truck to burn down lol Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Ls engine alternator wiring question
Blue, white can be removed. Brown can be removed as well if you are using the PCM pigtail. You do need power to the firewall block which the red wire supplied in the stock wiring. I kept my ammeter, I wanted stock look and function. In the electrical forum there is a long thread from VetteVet and others going over different options. My build thread has a diagram of how I did mine if you want to reference it...

Re: Ls engine alternator wiring question
Definitely a lot of ways to do it, especially depending on volt meter you use or don't... I'm very happy with mine thus far, but haven't put a ton of driving on it yet, maybe 200 miles?

Re: Ls engine alternator wiring question
On my LS swaps I've rewired with a kit from Painless. I was always nervous about the high output of the LS alternator compared to the stock truck alternator. Just double check your wire gauge to make sure you are safe.

Re: Ls engine alternator wiring question
Mine is fully fuse and fusible link protected and wire gauges are outlined in my diagram. There's always a risk...
