LQ4 Teardown & Rebuild

I have started the teardown on my LQ4 engine. I plan to rebuild it with a cam and 706 heads for a good power bump while maintaining reliability.

This will be going into my 71 4X4 GMC and will be backed by an NV4500/NP205. One day I will post about the full resto!

The video shows the teardown process. For those who haven't disassembled one of these engines yet, I hope this helps you! They are actually quite easy.

I am just finishing up my lq4, Have 862 heads with a BTR stage 3 V2 cam and a Blackbear tune. Sounds like our builds will be similar except my truck is 2wd

I went back and forth on heads and cam selection. I ended up doing a sloppy stage 2 cam, reworked 318 heads, pac springs, gapped rings, ls6 lifters and everything that goes with a typical rebuild. First ten second start up the other day seems promising.

Looking good. I torn my LQ4 down, had it cleaned, honed and new bearings put it. I sent my heads to Texas Speed for their CNC service and also had them decked .030 to bump compression to around 10:1. I went with their baby 224r cam. It made a little over 400 at the tire not leaning on it too hard. Your build is very similar. You will like it!
