1966 C10 Beginner

Hey everybody! I’m new around here just wanted to introduce myself. Love this site. I have a 66 C10 that my grandpa bought new in 1966. Just recently took my maiden voyage in it it’s been down for several years now. Needless to say I am stoked to be driving it again it was one of the trucks I learned how to drive on. I have a couple questions if I am in the right place for that. 1. I have a red light on on the dash it’s the one above the H in the Temp portion but it only comes on when I start it then goes off after a while. Don’t know if this is trying to tell me it’s hot or what but the engine is cold. 2. I would like to have some good manuals on it. Which ones should I get and where to get them? Thanks guys look forward to hearing from yall.

Welcome! You need the 1963 Truck shop manual and the 1965 supplement. Both available on ebay, and probably lots of the truck parts suppliers.

As for your light, I'll guess the wire for the cold terminal is swapped with the hot.

Really cool history with your family truck. You'll love it, easy to work on, inexpensive parts. Enjoy the community here, there are some very knowledgeable and helpful members.

Welcome! Post up some pics of the truck. We love pics here

Like what Jayoldschool said, check to see if the wires for the hot and cold lights are not swapped. On the back of the cluster, the bulb for the H should have a red socket. If that socket is in the right place, check the terminals at the sender. If the original plug broke at the sender, it is extremely easy to swap the wires by accident.

I have one of the reproduction shop manuals for my 63. It has come in handy many times.
