Fuel tank strap, U Bolt dimensions ?
Guys, I'm looking for some help with measurements of the U bolt on the Lh side of the frame that the tank straps bolt to. Mine broke when I was taking it out. I planned on fabbing a new one but now I can't find it. Can someone please measure their's. I need to know:
1) What is the length between the U or center to center 2) What is the overall length of the U bolt arms 3) What is the length of the thread part or the arms Thanks for help on this. Below is a couple of borrowed pics of the part I'm talking about.

Re: Fuel tank strap, U Bolt dimensions ?
Here's what I made. In the end I went with a stronger design. If one of these welds breaks the tank could fall out. instead I took 1/8" thick steel, 1" by ~8" and drilled 3/8" holes the correct distance apart and welded the bolt heads to the plate. this way if the welds break the bolt will still hold the straps in. Make sense?
This is from total distance across including threads |

Re: Fuel tank strap, U Bolt dimensions ?
Thanks for the help. This is enough that I can get something fabbed up. Is the thread 3/8 " size?

Re: Fuel tank strap, U Bolt dimensions ?
Interesting. Do you remember when installed which way it goes? Longer front or back?

Re: Fuel tank strap, U Bolt dimensions ?
No I don't but I really don't think it matters. It was probably just the process they used to bend the rod and not worried too much about the offset but that is just my thought.

Re: Fuel tank strap, U Bolt dimensions ?
Ok thanks. I just picked up some 3/8 steel rod today. Hopefully this week I'll have some time to bend it and cut the threads. I'll post a pic when it is all done but I just plan on making it look stock.

Re: Fuel tank strap, U Bolt dimensions ?
Thanks but I think you covered it. The spread looks like 7.5" ctr to ctr. I measured the tank and 7.5 is also the ctr to ctr on the strap depressions.

Re: Fuel tank strap, U Bolt dimensions ?
Finally got around to doing this. I got a piece of 3/8" cold rolled rod. Bent it as required and then cut the threads. As close to factory as I could get it. Just gave it a quick media blast to remove the steel oil so I can paint or powder it. Thanks again for everyone's help on this.

Re: Fuel tank strap, U Bolt dimensions ?
Wow! That looks really good! What did you use to bend the rod to get such a nice radius?
