1961 apache lwb stepside 4x4 help with value
Hello, can someone give me a value on a 61 apache 4x4 all original. 8ft stepside box 235/6 radio delete i have a 67 gmc swb wide side 4x4 that i know is a rare truck but i really have no knowledge when it comes to 60-66 my research so far says 2nd year for factory 4x4 last year of the apache cant find any production numbers or if there a sought after truck or a dime a dozen. Any help would be appreciated

Hello everyone,
I found a really clean original 61 k10 apache LWB stepside. trying to gather some info on this year truck so i can get an idea of what its worth to make an educated offer. I realize this is the 67-72 message board. I posted on 60-66 message board yesterday but have only had 2 views and 1 response. i dont know maybe that tells me all i need to know? ( not much interest in these old trucks) hoping theres somone that can help. I read that it was the last year for the Apache and 2nd year for GM producing there own 4x4s, no production numbers keep back then. |

How clean is the truck ?
Paint still daily driver shape ? Rust in fenders ? Rust in box? How solid is the cab floor corners rockers and roof skin ? Cab mounts ? Still original motor ? At a guess really clean 5 to 12 grand at a guess with out close inspection |

Without seeing it its hard to give an opinion but with a vision in my mind of what you described I would guess its a 2500 dollar good deal to a hi end of 5 grand. That year is not the hot ticket right now but would be a desirable rig for those that like them,and if its clean and being that old I'm sure the value would only appreciate.

Make sure it has that snort hood they don’t reproduce them and they make the truck I sold my 60 short bed 4x4 5 yrs ago frame off for 60000.00 if that helps pic will help

The bedwood is in better shape than the deck in my '68 Stepside. Apache's a cool name, too. Much cooler than ''C/10,'' which sounds like a target in Battleship.
I prefer the 67-72 body style, but they did not skimp on sturdy steel body panels in that vintage. In Arizona, in the cities, you have to get emission tested every year for any vehicle 67 or newer. The earlier trucks skate. In Alaska that's not an issue. What engine does it have? With that stick, the tranny is likely an SM420, with a Granny low. Rockwell T221 transfer case. Good set-up for the bush.

im 200+ lbs i crawled in the back to look at the hubcaps that wood is solid no soft spots at all i was suprised.

That seems like a good find. Here in so-cal they're out and about. New for 1960 was a new designation system for trucks made by GM. Gone were the 3100, 3200, and 3600 designations for short 1/2, long 1/2 and 3/4-ton models. Instead, a new scheme assigned a 10, 20, or 30 for 1/2, 3/4, and 1-ton models. Actual badging on Chevrolet trucks carried the series name system from the previous generation for 1960 and 1961: the 10, 20, 30, and 40 series, C and K, were badged as "Apaches", 50 and 60 series trucks were badged as "Vikings", and the largest 70 and 80 series models were marked "Spartans". The '67-'72 were named the "Action Line".
But my biggest thing is can you buy restoration parts?? <<That right there would make my decision. |

What's the asking price? If you want to buy the truck, that looks like a good candidate for purchasing. Check the rockers, cab floor supports, cab corners, door bottoms, fender bottoms, and front floor pans to see potential rust issues. Also look around the roof both above and below the drip rail. Those are the areas you should look at when looking to purchase any 60-66 truck.

Kind of hard for those of us in the lower 48 to advise on price, as I know where you are is a whole different economic game . That said, it looks like a good solid truck, with most parts as close as your local UPS driver. (or this forum). While short beds are the trendy thing these days, I have to admit a long stepper is very cool and unique. Being a 1/2 ton will make brake parts much easier to find, and even X-fer and closed knuckle front end parts are out there with a little searching, so don't let anybody tell you different.
Those hub caps, radio delete and pass side mirror post (if the solid cast type) are all nice hard to find bonuses. If you go for it it should be a fun and unique truck Tom

X2! Clean unaltered originals don't come easy. Looks very similar to your GMC, does not need to be restored. Appears to have low mileage 50K? Has a rare and desirable period Sportsliner aluminum shell. 8K would be a great deal, probably would go for 15K on ebay.
