Re: LED's?

I haven't historically been huge fan of LED headlights, but also haven't used them in years so take that with a big grain of salt. I am sure they've gotten better.

What I do is swap from 9005/9006 to 9011/9012. Its a simple procedure, get OEM bulb longevity, and significant more light output, without the extra glare/back scatter. You've not nice clear lenses, so you'll have an even better effect regardless of what bulb you go with.

I've heard newer style LED headlights are "directional" of sorts - to provide a clean cutoff line and more output down the road, but I haven't tried them in years. Interested to see what the outcome is!

EDIT: apparently I can't read. I usually do LED's all over my interior, my reverse lights, maybe tail/brake lights, but thats it.

Re: LED's?

In my '02 I had LEDs in the dash, HVAC/Radio, dome lights, mirror lights, license plate, reverse lights and DRL's. I never bothered with the headlights- I felt the halogens were good enough and I got others flashing theirs at me enough just using Sylvania bulbs.
Diode Dynamics makes some real nice LED's, US made too.

My 01 has LED for the day time running lights with no problems (2 years) I know the standard ones were prone to burn out a lot

All but the turn signals are Diode Dynamics - I have Diesels LED's because they have the built in resisters so I don't get rapid flashing. ...

The LED's have come a long way ....

my '02 now around 196k miles just replaced factory headlights about 2 years ago, replaced both but only one was out..

everything works except the radio head unit, couple of backlights out but half the buttons are broken and ready to fall out anyways..

I just listen to k-earth so volume knob is all I really use..

really can't recall replacing any other bulbs except these.. I just left them out the third time

Re: LED's?

I have Sylvania Zevo 194 LED bulbs in the side marker lamp positions on my truck along with 194s & a Festoon bulb in the interior.

Be careful of the taillamps and the front parking/turn & DRL lamps.
You can have issues with phantom current draw with LED bulbs on some vehicles. The Epsilon II Impala can not have LED bulbs installed in the backup, marker, and turnsignal bulb positions at the front and rear... Not sure about the markers. The battery runs down overnight.
There's a bug in the BCM bulb check software that keeps the vehicle systems from going to sleep with LED bulbs in those positions. GM isn't the only one affected by this behavior. I've read about Nissan, Honda, Subaru, Volvo, and Toyota vehicles that do the same thing. You can flip the bulb check bits off in the VW, Audi, Seat, & Skoda BCMs so they don't do this crap but if you forget to do that it'll bite you on those too.

New headlamp housings and Sylvania Xtravision or Phillips 60% Vision bulbs will give you real nice forward lighting.
LED bulbs are sexy but you can replace the 9005 HB4 bulbs with 9011 H1R and the 9006 HB4 bulbs with 9012 H1R bulbs. You have to trim one of the locking tabs slightly to mate with the housings but otherwise they fit just fine. They're the same wattage so they don't melt the housings.
If you take care to adjust the headlamps properly you will not get flashed by oncoming traffic.

Re: LED's?

Yep got 9005s for hi and low beams. Also led parklight and DRLs. Installed a led flasher so no need for resistors. Also did the hi 6 mod chip. Let's my low beams and fog light be on with the hi beam. Also led license plates lights.

The plate isn't installed yet.

The truck is sitting on uneven ground ... 1/2 on the driveway and 1/2 on the grass.

Re: LED's?

Parallax is a displacement or difference in the apparent position of an object viewed along two different lines of sight.

The two different pictures in this thread are a case study in Parallax issues with cell phone cameras. The CCD is much better in newer phones so the resolution doesn't suffer, like it did a decade ago, but the tiny lens with no mirrors gives rise to Parallax errors.
