91 full size jimmy side gas tanks possible?

Hey I have a 91 GMC Jimmy. I have the rear 35 gallon tank. Will short bed side gas tanks work on my jimmy?

It has a cat but now that it is 30 years old I can modify the exhaust.

Thoughts? Ideas on pluming? It is throttle body injected so I guess I would need to put electric pumps in them?

Where do you plan on putting them?? Those tanks fit on the outside of the frame.

Going off memory as I am a truck person.

But the floor shape, and height will block you from using a rcsb fuel tank even if it was shortened.

I have seen suburban tanks in Blazers which are 40 gallons, and this is probably the best you can do with out custom work.

You have to remove, and slide back your rear cross member. Plus also you trailer hitch if so equipped. Set in the new tank, and fabricate around it. It sticks out a bit back there, but 1/4 plate skid pads will keep it safe.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't looked into it. So I don't know if it is possible. Sounds like you guys don't think it is. Suburban tank at 40 gal? Mine is 35. just fishing for ideas. Thanks again.

On my Willys project. I plan to use a Blazer 25 gallon tank, but also make attachments for up to 4 Jerry cans. So another 20 gallons onbosrd the truck if need be.

I will go bigger on the tank if possible, but alot if that depends on where my suspension ends up. Right now I figure 25 is a safe bet on the minimum with a outside chance of a 40 gallon tank.

Fyi it's a 25 or 31 gal tank NOT a 35 gal . And as said suburban can have a 40 .

What is the real goal for you? Capacity? Spare tire?

Because the floor pans are different between the trucks and the Jimmy, the truck side tank will not fit! If looking for more capacity, the optional 31 gal tank on the Jimmy is the standard tank on a Suburban - your easiest way for additional capacity is a 40 gal Suburban tank.

I am told that the 40 gal tanks will probably interfer or come in contact with the rear dif on SWB trucks and Blazers, but do OK on LWB trucks. I have never done it, but heard a friend had the issue on his SWB truck.

31 Gal: 29"x28"x13".
40 gal: 35"x29"x13".

I may have missed it - but why do you want to do this? I don't see any advantage, actually I think its worse as its a more complicated system - two pumps, the switch valve, all the electrical and plumbing.

I have a SWB C10 I lowered and did the LS swap on - part of me wishes I had just gone to using the blazer tank in the back vs the dual tanks, it would have really simplified the whole system.

If your after capacity I think you would be disappointed, my 16 gallon tanks would read almost empty after using about 10-12 gallons. I think the tank is so long that the last 4-5 gallons spreads out to the point where its not very deep anymore.

This is true. My long bed has a 20 gallon and when it says empty there is still about a 1/4 tank in it with the new sender. Same with the 16 gallon in my step side.
