Oil Pressure Sender/Switch

Hey everyone,

Engine is a gen 3 5.3 (L59) out of a 2006 GMC Yukon. PCM is out of a base model 2006 2500HD truck.

Trying to get oil pressure via OBDII. I am using the correct PID with the correct equation, but the PID is only returning 1 and 0. I am 100% confident that the Yukon I took the engine out had an oil pressure gauge... but the PCM was mailed to me, so I don't know if the truck it came out of had one. The PID returns a hex value that equals 1 while the engine is running, which I assume means I have enough oil pressure so as not to trigger a code.

So my question is more of a confirmation; the oil pressure sensor/sender/switch on my engine should return a range, but I am pretty sure I read somewhere that if your vehicle didnt have an oil pressure gauge, in the tune, it was disabled or set to "Switch only?" Unfortunately I don't have HPTuners yet to pull the tune. I did verify I have a 3 wire plug going to the PCM (PSI Harness.) See the screenshot for where I think I'll need to enable it. The pink/red highlighted field. This is just a sample tune I downloaded from a base model 05 Tahoe.

My understanding is that most companies/people eliminate that when making a harness. Ive only done a two swaps but both harness makers removed it and I had to run my own oil pressure gauge.

I had heard that too - so the first thing I checked was that there was a 3 wire (not just a 1 wire) connection into the main trunk leading to my PCM. I'll double check with PSI though - they've been great all along.

You're 100% correct... no oil pressure wiring, so no idea what I've got plugged in there. Guess I need to go dig further. I've got an oil pressure gauge here to install, just was hoping to put it on my tablet.

I had an extra plug there and thought it was for my oil pressure switch but it turns out my harness left the knock sensors (I thought they were removed). I was confused as hell and searching for an oil switch that fit the plug for a few days.

I think the stock sensor sent info from the ecm to the bcm then to the dash. I think the ecm just needs the info yes oil pressure or no oil pressure.
I left mine connected and added a sensor just for my Dakota gauges. Not sure if it was needed but it’s in and my truck runs fine. Mine are GenIV’s

That would make sense (BCM to PCM) - I was hoping it was the other way around but I guess not. No big deal really, eventually I'll be Dakota Digital I think, and for now I've got a gauge and sensor here, and the adapter. Just need to yank the intake manifold again and get it installed.
