What later model steel wheel for disk brake conversion
Hi all. I am wanting to upgrade my '59 truck to front disk brakes. I know the stock wheels will not fit the calipers and I am not keen on adding a spacer. I remember somewhere on this site stating that later model steel wheels will fit the disk calipers, but for the life of me I can't find it when searching this site. I want to keep a stock appearance if all possible. Anyone have any info on this? Appreciate the help, thanks

I know on the 60-66 trucks with a 6 lug disc swap, some people use the 73-87 4x4 wheels. I would think those would work on your truck also.

Re: What later model steel wheel for disk brake conversion
If you want to stick with 15 inch 74 Chevy K10 4x4 came with 15 inch 6 lug wheels and had disk brakes. I think the basic wheel was `15 x 7 but may have been 15x8.
Hubcaps might be an issue if you want to run original 59 hubcaps though. Way back in the mid 80's I bought a set of 15 inch 6 lug Chevy 4x4 rally wheels with caps and rings at the tire store I deal with when someone who put aftermarket wheels on his 4x4 didn't want to keep them and we put them on my son's 70C 10 long bed. Turned a stock rather plain truck into a great looking truck but still had the "original" GM vibe to it. That has over the years been a popular TF swap and someone probably has a photo.

4x4 truck with Rally wheels and big tires but it is a good look. The 8 inch wheels might be a bit wide if the truck is lowered. Probably not an issue for a stock height truck.

Year wise 71/87 4x4 wheels should work but they may have gone to 16 inch somewhere in there.

Re: What later model steel wheel for disk brake conversion
Get some new OEM style wheels from Wheel Vintiques, they should clear disc brakes. You can also get 16" steelies and attach clips for a hubcap if you like, just to be sure.

Re: What later model steel wheel for disk brake conversion
Thanks for that. I looked at that site, I think that will be the way to go. Looking at them and they have the stock type appearance I am looking for. It will be a lot cheaper going this route than the prices I was seeing for the later style steel wheels on ebay.
