Gas door
Has anyone seen this setup before, a gentleman sent me these pictures several years ago when we were discussing relocating the fuel filler. I found these a week ago and thought to not reinvent the wheel, he said it went well, however my geometry is not for s..t, making each piece and testing through that hole is not going well, I must be missing something. I am hanging up on the lower part of the light trim , just as it pivots out of the hole...?..

Re: Gas door
I think that there is a narrow curved metal part that the wiring loom is attached to. The hinge point would then be a few inches down inside the fender. I downloaded the photos, cropped and enhanced them, and that is what it looks like to me.

Re: Gas door
I was thinking along those lines, thought possibly the person that designed it would bring us up to speed, its not very accessible from below in the area the hinge would mount in, the two Phillips head screws must hold one portion of the mount.
I’ve got another design that I am trying, I’ll see how it works out.... |

Re: Gas door
Somewhere in these forums I saw someone else do the rear taillight access also - I don't remember who though.

Re: Gas door
I did a side marker fill setup on my 69 stepside, I;m wondering if you could put a shim between you light and hinge . Is it hitting bad or just a rub ? maybe all you need is just a shim in the right place to get it to clear

Re: Gas door
Fair contact, trying to keep the aluminum trim piece tight like stock to the body, just have to change my geometry on the hinge a bit, all trial and error, with me mostly error at this point, trying not to have to touch up paint anything, just working through the existing hole...2” wide...

Re: Gas door
After more attempts than I could count and countless parts manufactured that became scrap, it finally works...now on to the fuel filler...still have a bit of cleanup work on the hinge mechanism

Re: Gas door
After some modifications on the fuel filler, it now has a bracket and is mounted, no modifications to the inside of the bed, now on to the magnetic retaining mechanism.....
