clutch pedal removal on a 66

I have a 66 that was originally a manual trans truck...I am putting a 700r4 in my build so i dont need to clutch pedal anymore...It looks like it comes out fairly easy by removing the spline lever and bolt on the gas pedal side and it will then slide out of the brake pedal "tube"...my question is, is this the correct way to eliminate it? or does the brake pedal mechanism still need that hardware connected up to function correctly? Other way was just gut it off up high and be done with it....Thoughts??

Don't cut it, removal is quite easy and brake assembly does not require it to remain in order to function. Helpful diagram from LMC truck below:

Perfect...I got it out with no issues...Now i need to figure out what to use for a gas pedal..just running a sbc...This is all i have in my cab right now..https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1Q...1TyDnYaMzLzAij Am i better off going with a 72-86 pedal and cable? think ive seen some write ups on how to do that..

I was unable to access your google image but in a 66 there should be two round metal knobs on the floor, the gas pedal has pockets for these to sit in. LMC truck does sell these (https://www.lmctruck.com/1960-66-che...r-rubber-parts) but there are other sites that should carry them too (i.e. Brothers Trucks, Classic Car industries, GMC Pauls etc.)

Thanks, looks like you are missing the gas pedal studs down on the floor (the two holes in the floor at the base of where the gas pedal would be). Not sure where you find them, but here is a link to an ebay item as an example.

Any advantage/disadvantage to running a throttle "rod" instead of a cable? guessing if i stay with what i have "stock" in the cab already i will be running a rod...700r4 tranny...

I run a 700R4 and am running a throttle rod on my setup. I used the original gas pedal assembly at the firewall (same as yours) but then used a swedged aluminum throttle rod with heim joints from there to carb. Purchased the aluminum rod and heim joints at Speedway. For the throttle heim joints, you would get a right and left hand thread so you can easily adjust. Don't forget the jam nuts!

I converted mine to a cable to better work with my carb linkage, but I used a 73-87 pedal. I don't recommend using a 73-87 pedal. It doesn't fit great with the firewall. I had to bend it a lot. I am going to put a 71-72 pedal in it at some point

I am going to use a 7004 trans in my 66 also. Since i am using the original 250 six cylinder will I have to just remove the clutch pedal only and use the original setup on the gas pedal? Also going to use a column shifter out of a 69 truck.

You should be able to just remove clutch pedal assembly and use your existing throttle assembly setup.

Chad, I need a clutch pedal, someone cut mine off and I am putting a manual trans back in mine. let me know if you want to sell yours

Here's my setup. I've also got a 700r4 and you can see the cable for that and I modified the flat piece so I would be sure to get full throttle. As for the gas pedal, those little ball attachments are needed but I can not recommend LMC for those. I bought a pair and they did not fit right and are not the same as the originals. Go to one of the suppliers mentioned above.
