New to this part of the board.

I have been a member for years and bought my '68 in 2002. Now I picked up a '65. I am building a rolling chassis for my '68 but when that truck is together I will jump into this one. I have liked these a long time. I got this one for $650.00. Rough but all there. I will try to post more pics but I have slow internet here and can only post one pic at a time. This one has a 6 with granny 4 speed. The previous owner used it to tow his dirt track car. it has bars welded on the front bumper to push start his racer.

Mid 50's camper of unknown origin. There were no badges. I rebuilt it.

Here is what I started with. Hope to get the truck looking as good some day. My limitation is time.

Here is the back. The tailgate is the best part. Most don't have one.

Congratulations , nice find. Looks like it wore '64 badges at one time.

Good catch. And I don't see holes where the 65 badge would go. Interesting.

Good idea.
You might check the VIN both on the cab and the frame.

Found a snake skin in the cab. Guess he has been protecting the truck from theft!

Re: New to this part of the board.

Thanks. I am leaning toward a stock style rebuild. I have done the hotrod thing for years and this one I think should look more like Chevy made it. I will do upgrades to make it reliable and more safe but I think I will leave it stock height and paint it two tone. This will be a budget build with wrecking yard parts and leftovers from my other two trucks. I may put in a v8 if the six is locked up but only because I have one. I would rather keep the six if I can save it.

Re: New to this part of the board.

Ok boy's and girls. Time to listen to uncle Rick. I started to clean out the interior and I put on gloves and a mask. I found about an inch and a half of mouse poop under the seat! The rest of the floor only had an inch. This stuff is nasty and can make a guy sick! I swept up most then vacuumed the rest. I will dump the vacuum and clean it with bleach then put in a new filter. I also sprayed down the floor with bleach water. No pics included for good reason.

Fortunately both mine were never really neglected. But. I still bought some flexible hose and attached it to the end of my shop vac hose. Then I ran it into nooks and crannies just in case. One area you might try is that ledge behind the seat above the gas tank. That's where some in these forums found nests. Another is up in the roof of the cab. They found those when they removed the roof.
I think if I was worried that my cab had been taken over by mice, I'd strip the interior, put it on a rotisserie and run a water hose to flush those areas out. Maybe that's over doing it, but I'm like you when it comes to dirty mice. I know I don't want to remove my roof and then reinstall it, but I think I could do a good enough job flipping the cab over and flushing things out with soapy water. I'd probably use dawn dish soap.

Re: New to this part of the board.

That is a good idea! I was told the truck sat for 15 years but the tag in the back glass said 1985.

Re: New to this part of the board.

Did some research and found out my truck is a '64. Built in Saint Louis Missouri. I am in Western Arkansas so the truck never did get far from it's birth place.

Re: New to this part of the board.

Thanks for all the complements. I have just been tinkering with it and already have gotten the passenger door latch to work and the window to go up and down. It was froze up. Found out the 6 is froze up too. I am soaking the cylinders and will work on it to try to get it free. When I drained the oil the pan had antifreeze mixed in. Pretty sure it has a blown head gasket. Probably why it was parked. I have parts to build a small block but I wanted to keep the 6.
