1967 292 engine color 6 cylinder
Not too long ago I remember reading a thread that included information on the correct color for a 292 in a 67 truck. I vaguely remember someone saying that Krylon Alpine Green was a close match. Can someone tell me what they know is absolutely correct? I cannot seem to find that previous thread. Thanks

Re: 1967 292 engine color 6 cylinder
Model Year 1967 RPO L25 engines were Chevy Engine Orange. Earlier 292s were sour apple green, '63 - '66. Smaller L6s were Blue [230, 250].
After '67 ALL Chevy engines got Chevy Engine Orange.

Re: 1967 292 engine color 6 cylinder
Not exactly sure, as I've seen silver, black and Chevy Engine Orange, but I think Transfer Cases were a ''Boxcar Red'' -- kind of a reddish brown flat color. I've seen many that way.

Re: 1967 292 engine color 6 cylinder
I agree on both colors. Don't have the exact color on the transfer case but boxcar red works well. Like a red oxide, which can vary from about brown to almost red. I'm sure someone will have the info and a picture

Re: 1967 292 engine color 6 cylinder
I collected a MY '63 core 292 motor which is Alpine Green/Detroit Diesel Green. If I rebuild it and mount it in my '67 K/10 Suburban, I might repaint it in Sour Apple, just for effect.

I would surely love to see a color photo of the green!

Re: 1967 292 engine color 6 cylinder
I looked thru my cache of stored jpegs but the only ones I pulled up were of a very greasy block with a blue valve cover. PO had bought the 292 whole from a farmer, and hygraded it out to me, only keeping the green Chevy script L6 valve cover. So you only see blue or dirt in the pix...

Re: 1967 292 engine color 6 cylinder
If transfer cases were painted at all by GM they would have used Red Oxide primer. That was the primer of choice at GM for metal in the 60's. I saw a lot of under bodies painted in Red Oxide back then.

Thanks for your expertise. GM workers from the past should be proud of their work -- alot of which is still on the road.
