door checks
im closing in on finishing a year and a half project restoring a 1966 stepside.
i learned the hard way that a large percentage of parts from all the vendors dont fit and need modifications to fit properly. what i cant find are a set of door checks that work. ive installed 2 sets from a couple of the large companies, and they are all the same, both sets failed without it leaving the shop. can anyone offer advice where i can find some sturdy door checks. thanks in advance kevin |

Re: door checks
Ya I changed to the Jeep units as the aftermarket units kept failing, get stuck etc.

Re: door checks
I used the Jeep ones as well. I split the rubber in half so the door opens a bit further. There's room to open a bit more but it's working okay.
I've also noticed many modern cars use a similar design in various lengths and I wonder if there's one out there that will work for our trucks. |

Re: door checks
thanks a million for the great advice.
i ordered new ones from the jeep dealer, driver and passenger. the wrecking yards around here are very small and didnt have any jeeps. its worth it though, ive spent $40 for junk from china already. thanks again, kevin |

Re: door checks
84-96 Cherokee rear doors. (Not Grand Cherokee)
CORRECTION: I checked my records and I used FRONT door ones not rear. #55235571AB If you google just the part number you'll find lots of suppliers. Last edited by bigmoe; 08-01-2021 at 10:25 PM. |

Re: door checks
i ordered new door checks from Jeep, and they have modified them or the parts guy ordered the wrong ones.
they dont look like any of the photos of the old Jeep door checks. does anyone happen to have a jeep part number so i can order the proper ones. The junkyards close to me have a very limited supply of wrecks to pick from. if anyone has a part number, that would be awesome. thanks again kevin |

Re: door checks
How hard would it be to remove the lever? I'm thinking if it's doable I could burn out one longer on the plasma table
