650 bucks? A little steep and I'm not a fan of led lights. It is a very cool idea. Mighthave to steal it and make my own while I have my truck blown apart. Lol

It’s time consuming, but doable, did it last winter when I was laid up from broken leg…

I wish I could just tell you a certain hinge…I made everything with the exception of the pivot pin, which is a solid pushrod from an early 392 hemi….used it so I would be able to drill and tap for the pivot point.

The rest is just trial and error to get the geometry correct, geometry was not one of my strong suits in school. I even made shims to tighten everything up, when it gets to extended length, it doesn’t take much to have too much play.
If you have time and access to a good salvage yard, it would most likely be easier….

Even at $579 it’s pricey.
I realize they did the engineering, but you still have to do a lot of cutting and some fabrication. If it was $250, I would buy it right away.

I ordered one. It arrives tomorrow. I’ll will see if I can post the instructions. I hope the cutting is doable without damaging the paint. I just finshed painting my truck.

I'm interested to hear how stable it is once installed. I realize the light doesn't weigh all that much but with a side swinging single hinge it seems like it would be a little floppy vs. one that hinges down. Personal opinion, but I don't see $600 there.

Edit: Okay it looks like they stiffened up things since the TikTok video.

I cannot believe the cost of fuel fill hose. I may need about 5 feet, and a 6' piece from Rock Auto is $75, with shipping. What the hell??

Anyone know of a better place to get this hose?

If I use a connector, what material should it be - steel?
Is aluminum ok to use with gasoline?

Why do you need a vent tube in the new style filler necks while the original one on the C10 does not?

The in cab tank for 60-66 doesn't have a vent in the filler neck, but on the Suburban and Panel tank that's under the rear floor, it did have a vent tube that runs from the tank into the top of the filler neck.

A vent is good because it allows the fuel to expand and contract with the temperature without building too much pressure inside the tank. It'll probably help with ease of filling since the air being displaced by the fuel can go through the vent instead of out the filler neck that the fuel is trying to go down.

There's probably some other science-y reason I don't know about

What carpenter said about your next question 👍👍👍, for filler hose go to fillerhose.com, they have lots of hose, bends etc and filler necks…I used a piece of stainless for my tubing, aluminum would be fine though….

I think you mean fillernecksupply.com… can’t find fillerhose.com.

I did check fillernecksupply, they have it, but not cheap at all. A 5’ piece is about $78 shipped.

If you do the tail light filler, you don’t really have room for a regular gas cap. Someone told me they would use fuel cell foam to plug it up. Is this adequate?
Will the vapors still escape and fill the garage?

Either way it seems a charcoal canister would be required to help vent the tank and keep vapors at bay.

Correct on the fillernecksupply……lots of newer vehicles don’t use fuel caps, everything still vents, odor or not, they have a spring loaded cap and nothing twist on, find one of those. The fuel cell foam would work similar to the spring loaded one as it gets compressed into the neck, or I see one of the kits uses a boat style cap, it still has a vent somewhere, charcoal canister I would seriously doubt. Did your stock tank smell up the garage with vapors? Mine didn’t, to my knowledge there isn’t a hot rod or classic car or truck that is built EPA compliant, all those power train packages that GM sells complete with cats and computer, still vent the fuel tank to the atmosphere…your call, enjoy the project…

I do not get any fuel smell with the truck in the garage - stock tank.

I'm definitely not concerned with EPA stuff; I just want to be sure I don't get the gas smell and I want to be sure the tank is vented properly, to avoid pressure building up.

So. I'm thinking I would use my filler neck tube and add a port to the top that vents to the fill side on the tank. This semms alittle easier than spending $60 on a fill tube.

The think that really bugs me is the price of the 1-1/2" filler tube hose.

So I received the kit yesterday but the instructions are incomplete. I emailed c10crewcab and he replied back he is modifying the instructions and will email them over to tomorrow.

After looking at the kit it’s going to require a pretty good amount of time to remove the inner part of the stake pocket. I am hoping it won’t jeopardize the structural integrity of the bed by cutting it out. It does say on the website this isn’t a 1 hour job and requires some fabricating skills but this looks pretty intense. I am not a rookie fabricator but it’s gonna be tough cutting in such tight spaces. I am hoping the new instructions tell me what tools he used to cut it out. I’ll post an update with the instructions.

I am also worried a little about fuel flow since the fuel
Hose will be pretty much flat for about 18” before dropping into the tank. I wish they would have shown the whole install in their promo videos and in the picture.

If anyone is considering getting this kit you might hold off for a bit until a few of us have actually got it installed successfully and the instructions are updated.
