700R4 ATF Fluid Question
Had some work done on my 69 C10 with the 700r4 transmission. Had to disconnect auxiliary cooler hoses and needed to replace about a quart of fluid. Accidentally used Valvoline synthetic ATF-4 instead of Dexron type. Is that going be a problem? Thanks

Re: 700R4 ATF Fluid Question
Someone may have a more technical response, but typically as long as the fluids mix, IE: combine instead of separate like oil and water, then it shouldn't be much of an issue.
This would be more of a viscosity issue than anything I would imagine. Now, there's a silicone brake fluid that isn't compatible with other types, and also a type of coolant that similarly can't be mixed under any circumstance, but i don't think that's the issue here with the trans fluid. |

Re: 700R4 ATF Fluid Question
I would do a complete flush with new AFT if it were my 700R4.
Are you going to kill it if left alone? Probably not given that you've got a 12 quart system with the cooler, and maybe even more if you've got a deep pan. The additive package is probably the biggest difference between the two ATFs you have in there now. |

Re: 700R4 ATF Fluid Question
ATF+4 is a friction modified ATF. It's what most modern autotrans use. One quart is only 1/12th the 700R4 capacity. As kwmech said (the trans won't even notice)
