American Thunder exhaust

Has anybody ran this exhaust on a lowered truck? My truck is lowered 3/5 and this kit has pipes under factory transmission crossmember and under trailing arm crossmember. Will this be too low?

Re: American Thunder exhaust

I think it would definitely be too low. You could have a nice custom exhaust for less money.

Re: American Thunder exhaust

I am installing the flowmaster kit right now.
The kit has issues and is not perfect, I ended up having to bring it to a shop to finish the install because I did not have the tools to fix it right, I did mock it all up before I brought to the shop, the left side bends are nice but the right side bends a couple bends are off a tad, the right side bend over the axle goes up to high and I had no clearance between the pipe and the box floor so I had to put spacers between the frame and exhaust hanger to drop it down about 1/2"
4 of the pipes ( 2 each side ) were they expanded the ends so the connecting pipe would slide in were not opened enough to allow them to slide into each other so that was my first problem that I had to bring the pipes to a muffler shop to have them opened up just so I could mock it up, then once I had it mocked up the left side I could use the connection pipe they sent to connect to my headers was close to being able to use but it was not good enough to use the way it was.
The right side had another bend that was off again and the pipe to connect to my headers was to far to the right and was almost under the frame so to fix this issue I had to cut about 4" out of the H pipe cross over tube so that I could suck the 2 pipes closer together so they would be closer to lining up with my headers, once I did that then I was able to use both sides of the connecting pipe they sent to connect to my headers.
I have a LS motor with full length headers.
By having to suck the H pipe closer together meant that I could not use the pipe hanger mounting holes in the spot the instructions said to drill the holes.
The exhaust pipe is very tight to the bottom side of the cross member and I do have a 3/5 dropped truck as well and I do not think I will have a issue with it being to low, I will post a picture of it soon so you can see.
Over all I guess I would recommend this exhaust as it is nice other then having some issues, it is a bit over priced and having 4 options for the tail pipe adds to that cost when they should give a option for one or 2 so they can keep the cost down.

Re: American Thunder exhaust

My Kids Toy, I appreciate the detailed reply. It's good to hear that with 3/5 drop you don't think it will be too low. I look forward to seeing your pictures.
Thank you again.

Re: American Thunder exhaust

If you put some holes in the trailing arm crossmember you can keep the exhaust tucked up a lot better. This frame is going to be 3 5 drop.

Re: American Thunder exhaust

This exhuast will not work like that without changing the tubes from the headers back and changing the cross over tube, and if you have to go through all that then this exhaust would not be worth buying, thats alot of money to just buy this kit for the tail pipes and mufflers.
