Proportion valve leaking
I am having a problem with my proportion valve leaking. I am hooking up the brakes for the first time and I cannot get this line to stop leaking. has anyone else had this issue. I have rebuilt this line 3 times with no luck.
Thanks. |

Re: Proportion valve leaking
I would think there are only three reasons for it to leak…not tight….bad flare…bad seat in the valve…my .02

Re: Proportion valve leaking
You need to ‘mate’ the flare with the seat.
Make a new line and this time just snug it up, not tight yet. Loosen it and then tighten again. Only this time go a little tighter. Repeat that process going tighter and tighter about 6 times. |

Re: Proportion valve leaking
I have had great luck using copper washers to seal inverted flare fittings. I keep them in my tool box in several sizes to use whenever I have a flare fitting that won't seal. They work on fuel lines, brake lines, transmission cooling lines, whatever. You can order them online from Grainger, see link. They are made specifically for inverted flare fittings.

Re: Proportion valve leaking
Thanks for the advise. I used geezer#99's method and it worked. As usual, great information from this site. Thanks geezer#99 and everyone for the responding to my question.
