L98 Corvette 350 swap question
I have the opportunity to get an L98 aluminum head 350 to replace the reliable, but quite gutless 305 in my 1984 C10. I'm getting it very very cheap from a friend. It's originally out of a Corvette he junked for other parts, he thinks it was a 1986. I plan to put a carb on it, so here is my question; exactly what intake am I looking for? I've looked over some TPI to carb swap info on other forums, but most just say you need an intake. Will I need a regular SBC intake, or one for 87-95 TBI, or Vortech intake?
And before anyone makes the point, I'm not keeping it TPI when it goes in the truck. I already have the mechanical fuel pump, HEI distributor, a great working carb, I just need an intake, and possibly a cam if the stock one doesn't have the eccentric for the fuel pump rod (some did, some didnt). For TPI I'd need alot more than that, and besides that the truck has always been carbureted and I enjoy it that way. I believe this engine will be a good base to build on, but I plan on putting it in my truck basically stock for now.

Re: L98 Corvette 350 swap question
The 350 if indeed from a Corvette, will have a regular intake bolt pattern 1955-1985.
As a note, some of the FI blocks are not fully drilled for a mechanical fuel pump.

Re: L98 Corvette 350 swap question
Okay thanks, it is 100% from a corvette I helped him scrap what was left of it, he just wasn't certain on the year. He thinks it was a 1986, it was definitely that generation of corvette. I'll see if I can get him to check for being drilled today, a long screwdriver should do the trick.

Re: L98 Corvette 350 swap question
55-86 sbc the intake manifold, all 12 were at an angle.
87-95 sbc the intake manifold, the 4 center intake manifold bolts went straight down and the other 8 were still at an angle. I've seen some people take an 55-86 intake manifold and oblong the 4 center holes to work on the newer cylinder heads (87-95). If the motor is a 1986 motor, then you should be able to reuse the intake manifold off your 1984 305. Here's a pic with more info. |

Re: L98 Corvette 350 swap question
Have you thought about using the TPI intake?
It makes the engine. Torque monster, and with Holley or 24X controls. A fuel sipper status can be achieved. |
