Upper control arm bolt
I found that my upper control arm nut has completely unthreaded and come off. I don’t know if it’s possible for the rod to completely come out but I think God that it didn’t fall apart on the freeway. Does anyone know where I can get this nut and and what it should be torqued to? Also should I put some locktight on it or something to keep this from happening again? If nobody can tell me where to get one can somebody tell me what size it is and if a grade eight nut will do the trick. I looked on the LMC website and Classic Industries but could only find a kit for the entire shaft and bushings and nuts but I think I only need the nut. I also checked the Napa website.
Forgot to mention that it is a 77 c10 cross member that is on my 62 c10 |

Re: Upper control arm bolt
Same thing happened on my corvette. Got mine from a junk yard. I am sure you can find something at a local parts place, maybe Napa

Re: Upper control arm bolt
You can get a pinch style locking nut at the hardware store or nut & bolt supply. The washer on the other hand will have to be sourced from a wrecking yard

Re: Upper control arm bolt
Fortunately the washer fell into the lower coil spring pocket. So I still have that. I will have to look into a pinch style lock nut Thais that size.
Do you have any ida of what size it is? |

Re: Upper control arm bolt
If memory serves it is a 5/8'' fine thread. What wrench fits the nut there

Re: Upper control arm bolt
Take the other nut off, go to the hardware store and buy another in Grade8.
Or go to a junkyeard and get one.

Re: Upper control arm bolt
I purchased a grade 8 from the hardware store based off of memory. I will check to see if it fits this Saturday. It was the largest grade 8 fine thread that they had. If it doesn’t fit I will take the old one off and see if a local specialty bolt store near me has it.

Re: Upper control arm bolt
The grand 8 that I got at the hardware store ended up being the right size. I am wondering if I should try and replace them all with the pinch style locks bolts. Or maybe I should just use some thread lock.
