Need a trailer hitch to tow an engine hoist
Would like to get some opinions; thinking about getting a bolt-on hitch for the bumper on my 63. I just need to tow an engine hoist to the house so I can install the 460 in the Ranchero.
You guys think this is acceptable or should I just spring for an under bed hitch?

Re: Need a trailer hitch to tow an engine hoist
In these parts a bumper hitch can tow 2000lbs with no more than 200lbs tongue weight (edit: might be 150lbs, IIRC).
I can't picture an engine hoist that needs to be towed - what's it look like? Mine fits in the pickup bed; it folds up, even.

Wow. I have never seen one of those. Interesting!

My biggest fear would be who packed the wheel bearings and when…😳😳😳😳😳😳…..those little suckers would be going 100 mph with that short tire…

Re: Need a trailer hitch to tow an engine hoist
Wouldn't it be easier to break down the engine hoist and put it in the bed? A friend brought his down to my house a few months ago, he put it inside his Hyundai.

Re: Need a trailer hitch to tow an engine hoist
Just because it is tow able, doesn't mean you have to tow it. I am sure that will fit inside the bed of the truck.

Re: Need a trailer hitch to tow an engine hoist
Sure you can. It might sway around a bit.

Re: Need a trailer hitch to tow an engine hoist
I used those tow-able engine hoists many times back in the day. Places rented them out cheap, and they work great. And yes, a simple 2" ball mounted to your bumper is sufficient to pull it.
