Back Seat

Is anybody using a different rear seat then stock. It sure would be nice to find something that uses some of those quick release latches on the new suvs and vans. Do the new Suburbans, Yukons etc. have these ?. I really need to find both front and rear seats. So maybe a day of wrecking yard shopping is in order.

My last 4x4 Blazer we installed a mid 80's S-10 Blazer seat in. At least it folded down.

My '77 suburban did not come with a 3rd row seat or the mounts for it. So I found a doner suburban that had the pockets with the bars in them in the floor. I cut out those sections of floor and welded them into my '77. The seat snaps down and with the lift of a lever comes out.

I don't know why that wouldn't work in one of our blazers. I'm not sure if the width of the 73-87 rear seats is too big. Might be worth checking out.

Don't forget to look at midsize and full size vans for donor seats- not too sure about GM vans, but my f*#@ van has plates that bolt to the floor with the quick release handles- Both center and rear seats- the older 1995 F@#$ Club wagons had benches that folded down into a bed, should fit over/between the wheel wells, etc (The plates unscrew nicely for a flat cargo area)maybe a set of captains chairs in the back of your blazer- it would be different- and van seats may be cheaper at a junkyard than Suburbans!

Look into the Chrysler/Dodge mini van rear bench seats. They should fit fine and if you take the floor lock mounts, they quick release, some have rollers and some fold flat etc. Have had 5 minivans and the seats are the best part!!

on my way home last night I seen a guy driving a 71 with no tailgate and the top off and he back seat was a 60/40 split and it was folded forward. I didn't get to stop him but I have seen it in the past so I will try to stop him and find out. The mounting was completely redone though. It looked as though the base of the seat was about 6" more narrow then stock.

I'm pretty sure that newer model tahoe/yukon/suburban/yukonxl third row seats will fit but I'm not sure about mounting them.

There is a one for sale near my house with two high back buckets in the rear. Same seats up front - I don't care for it though. I think I saw the truck listed at $12,000.

I measured the third row seat from my 99 suburban and it is fine as long as width goes. There are four pockets is the floor to accept the seat. It looks like you could cut the pockets out of a salvage suburban and weld them in to the floor on ours. I think it would work, but you may have to move it depending on structural members under the floor.

frames on the 92 up burbs are wider and the floor pockes may hit the frame in the 69-77 K5s. Not saying it couldn't be used but might have a fit ment issue. Get a seat third row seat out of a 73-91 Sub. They have about hter same frame width as the K5's. I think it's mudzer on CK5 makes some pockets that will bolt in if you can't weld.

You might be able to use a 78-91 K5 seat BUT the fold and tumble and the back sort of hangs into the foot well that started in 78. Might be able to sit the seat up 4 inches to resolve that problem but you will have to do somethi ng about the latch. Jeep CJ, TJ and YJ also have a fold and tumble but pretty narrow. They have like 38-40 inches between the wheel wells max so it's a pretty narrow seat.

i have the third row seats from a 2002 on mine. I made a sub frame so that the seats can be folded up and taken out I really need to post some pics i have had it done most of the summer.

I've got a suburban rear seat in the Fox. It's from an old square-nose. I cut the mounts out of the floor and welded them into the floor of the Fox. They're ugly right now: had to put them in quick to haul my fiance's neices around. I'll cutt them back out and recess them down to make the floor level. I set it kinda far back for leg room and sawed off the armrests to make life a bit easier. I'll post pix tomorrow or so. I welded the seatbelt receivers to the sides so when the seat comes out, so does everything to go with it.

The pics above look just like the '84 K5 rear seat that I am putting in the '71. The only difference is that the front edge of the seat bolts to the floor. Rear mounts are the same as mister. freeze's pics above . So at least the width will work whether it be a suburban or K5 seat. Mine's not fully installed yet- I have find a friend with a welder... but having the "flip and fold" option will be nice.

I had the flip'n'fold in my old '79. It did work well, but I needed the extra 10" when I put my motorcycle in it. I also like how the step of the '79 was further aft, making for better leg room for the back seat. My seat config in th rear is just like the Suburban's; no step.
