Gotta love getting older!
The state of California requires some people over the age of 70 to take a road test with a DMV employee. I'm over 70 and was luckily selected ()
You're required to supply your own vehicle for the road test. You have no idea how much I wanted to take Ol Blue: down there. Haha. No seat belts. No power steering. Granny 4 speed. Points ignition. High torque 250 6 banger. No emission controls... well, PCV valve. But seat belts are a requirement, and I needed to pass, so I took the wife's 2018 Fusion. And I passed. Der. But next time, I'm putting some seat belts from LMC in, and taking Blue. Haha.

Absolutely should do that next time. The DMV rep might just really enjoy the ride too. Give 'em somthing to talk about at dinner.

That is so Funny in one way.
One of my neighbors is almost 80 years old and has a Vega that he drag races. That would be fun for him to pull up in that and want to have his drivers test.

Re: Gotta love getting older!
I don't know if that test is a requirement in Texas.. But if it is, and I get the "call", I'll be taking the test in my 454 powered '71.....

Re: Gotta love getting older!
I took my drivers test in my '64 VW with no seat belts back around 2003, the DMV lady riding along was not impressed

Re: Gotta love getting older!
The DMV CANNOT mandate seatbelts in a vehicle that had no seatbelt requirement. If you decide to take your truck to do your test next time, if the testing person says something about it not having seatbelts, kindly tell them to review the vehicle code.

Re: Gotta love getting older!
Around these parts (BC) one of the most common reasons for having your road test vehicle rejected is it being messy, smelly or scented inside. Those are not specified in our DMV equivalent but they are an expectation of workplace conditions for the examiners.
I have zero expectation that you could leverage the DMV grandfathering of no seatbelts for old cars into using one for your road test. Unless you lucked out and got an examiner that thought going for a ride in a old car would be cool and chose to overlook it. we are all going to hit the got too old and can't drive point, it will be traumatic and life changing. I plan to still be driving my '52 when I hit the mandatory review age. As fun as it would be to use it for driving test I'll happily go rent something else for the day if it increases the odds of keeping my privilege to drive. |

Dang, I also live in Commiefornia & just turned 70 a few months ago. Looks like the end of this year I'll be needing to take the drive along test too. No seat belts in my 64 C-10 either but it's got Vintage Air & Power Windows. Should make for an interesting test.

Re: Gotta love getting older!
Nice interior! If I was the examiner I’d gladly ride in that. Hell if you let me drive it you could grade me!

Re: Gotta love getting older!
Over 10 years to hit that age now. If Ca proceeds down the road they are going we will most likely be somewhere else by then. My restomod 72 would be first choice for the driving test if it comes to pass.

Re: Gotta love getting older!
I drive the old truck around San Diego every weekend. It almost never fails to get some kind of comment from people. Like:
What year is it? Man, never paint that truck! I had one just like it, or some friend or relative did. Wanna sell it? Or my favorite...the sound of the six cylinder engine..brings back memories.
