This vin plate
If I'm reading this right this 1967 rig is the 96th to roll off the line,I would really like to have a idea of the production date.

Re: This vin plate
The build date project has a few California-built 1967 GMCs listed.

Chevrolet nameplated vehicles were also being built on the same line with their own specific VIN sequence. At about 9 or 10 Chevys for every GMC that pushes this truck way back. So - while it was the 96th serial number assigned to a GMC it would not have been the 96th vehicle down the line for the model year. There would have been about 900 Chevys in front of it. K

Re: This vin plate
What's the significance of the final A? Is it some model or year designation [GMC] -- or a 26 digit serialization? [So after 96A, comes 96B, and you don't get to 97 until you've seen 96Z?] (Some states do this on license plates.)

My understanding is it is an indication of which assembly line the vehicle was built on within the Fremont plant. K
