best internal parts for the dollar?
OK, I need a set of rings, rod and main bearings, oil pump, and maybe a small cam.
I also need to be on the low side of cheap. I know we are talking miricals here, but, does anyone have a link or a number (for local to Columbus Ohio) for real; cheap parts? I don't want junk that will blow out is 5,000 miles...but I have pocket lint to spend onm this sucker. Anyone? |

I guess a low dollar timing chain would be wise too....double roller. I know the parts stores will have that for 20-ish bucks.
But any words on brands to avoid? |

andy summit has the melling oil pump for 25 bucks. check your pms and what size are your rod and main bearing do you know? i have ones sitting here that im never going to use would get rid of em real cheap if they will work for ya. the mains are .010 under and the rods are .030 under they are federal mogul. summit has rebuild kits listed with pistons all gaskets bearings oil pump rings and freeze plugs for 210 for the cheapest one listed for a sbc with hypereutectic pistons. also check out northern auto parts http://www.northernautoparts.com/ they have cheap prices and if you upgrade from there very basic kits you can get decent stuff

This is a virgin block, and will remain so. Pretty much all I'm doing is a hone and re-ring, and the main and rod bearings. That's all I need to do...but I may do a cam too.
Cableguy, ignore the PM i sent you...now I know the 'who' that you were refering to. |

NAPA sells a real basic SBC refresh kit (rods, mains, rings, and gaskets). Last one I bought was 80 bucks. Trick is to get the right parts guy. Some like to stick it to you, others will give you a break.

Andy, go to Jegs... I priced both bearings, rings and gaskets around $115. Coyles gear set $ 20-25 same on oil pump. Cam and lifters $ 100-115. Don't have a catalog at the desk. All prices subject to '' Weasel's Findin' Fee '' LOL!!!!!!. I'm gonna go that route on my next build.

Andy, the kit box is long gone. Your NAPA will offer great choices. Tell the guy you need to shop for a NAPA engine kit. You can upgrade to bigger and better parts too for a very decent fee. Like add 30 bucks for an RV cam or whatever.
Also, Summit cams are like 80ish bucks and include lifters too.
