Gee Emm...

In the picture at the end of this thread....

Are you using one of those 10 x 20 tents that they sell on ebay?

I was seriously considering getting one of those, in fact, I was a click away from ordering one, and I saw that pic...just wanted to know if it was worth the money, especially because I don't have a garage.

I have one of those temperary shelter tents but mine is more like 12' x 25' and about 7' high. I needed it that big to get my truck under the support cross bars in the roof truss's. Plus my truck is practically 20' long so I went with a 5' add on to make sure I had room to be in the tent with my truck(when working in the engine bay for example).

They are ok, I wouldnt expect more then 5 years out of them. The one I have the framework is made out of pipes and they just slide togehter. I would strongly suggest to drill holes at each joint and bolt them together otherwise the pipes will come undone and fall and dent your ride. You have to tie them down really good too otherwise they will fly away, if you get any major amount of snow you have to go out and clear the snow off the roof. I have 2 of them in my yard, my 69 is in the other one. I intially bought one because I was so paranoid of getting hail damage to my 69, everytime it looked like it was gonna hail I had blankets on stand by ready to cover the truck with. Hopefully in the next couple years I will have time to build a real garage.

Cool, thanks guys...

I don't expect too much out of it, but it will get my ride out of the rain/snow/etc, and it will give me somewhere to use a MIG with a Gas
shield

How did you tie it down good? Did you just use the stuff they gave you?
Or did you buy strong material?

I used some extra railroad ties and rocks as weight and sat them on the lip of the tarp that lays flat with the ground on top of tying it down, as well as using the anchors they give you to drive into the ground. Seems excessive but the only place in my yard I was able to put this up was facing the "West Wind" so I wanted to be sure it wasn't going anywhere...

I just purchased one two weeks ago (ShelterKing) it is advertised as 12x20x8. I didn't buy it to store my Blazer but vtblazer had one the same size and he kept his 4" lifted K5 in there. However he did say a 4x4 with any lift is hard to get under the door. The peak height is 8' but the door height is more like 6'6". I guess stock or lowered rigs would fit fine. Anyway I got it for $550 shipped (shipping was $175) and was the best deal/quality I found after looking for awhile.

If you want to get the same price I did go here:
http://www.ussensible.com/pages/958087/index.htm

If you tell them you found the same brand and size for less they will beat the price. They will want to know where you found the lower price so here's the link to that site:
http://www.sheltersofamerica.com/products.php?id=1
(even though they don't list the ShelterKing brand name I checked and it is the same)

Hope that's not too confusing- it will save you a few bucks.
Good luck

I got mine locally for about $200US

To tie it down I just got some dog leash anchor thingys from Walmart and used some cheap cargo straps, at the least you need one at each corner.

71Blazer...The one that Gee Emm has is about the price he quoted...I can get it on ebay for $130 (buy it now)...while yours is probably a little better, I can't justify spending almost 600 bucks on a portable garage...I still have to buy myself a welder and something to cut my sheetmetal with. I was going to buy a plasma cutter, until I saw how much they cost...ouch!

Anyways, thanks again for the input
