how does a 203 xfer case work?

I've got what looks like a mid 70s 3/4 ton, dana 44 front, 14 bolt FF rear, TH400 and NP203. Since it's full time four wheel drive, how does it drive on the pavement? Do they have a viscous coupling in there or something? Any advice on how to drive it (in particular?). It does have a set of Warn hubs on it, so I can certainly disengage those. Did they have manual hubs from the factory? I want to switch to a 205 someday if I can get the frame fixed and I feel like it's going to be a keeper for a while at least. Mostly this is a plow and drive to the dump, maybe to work sometimes kind of truck. Thanks very much!
