Learning to Identify Drive train parts

Hiya guys

Im a die hard ford fan who happens to own and love a Suburban, So please play nice kay?

I have an 83 Suburban, 6.2 diesel, 4x4 and am interested in information on My axles, transfer case and transmission, and how to ID them.

Also interested in knowing if their is a VIN tag that will tell me my Gear Ratio without jacking it up and doing it the hard way

Thanks, looking forward to getting to know you folks
