instrument cluster problem

In my 1980 GMC
6 cylinder automatric
In the process of replacing instrument bulbs, I lost one of my clips which my gas guage plugs into. looked high and low and cannot find it. I debated removing the light green instrument back panel, but I'm afraid I'll really get into trouble with plugs getting pulled and brittle plastic parts breaking. Does anyone know of a simpler fix for this missing clip. I don't think I wouild be able to get a replacement for it. any ideas you may have about this would be appreciated. Thanks marvxyz :
