Poor mans External to Internal Voltage Regulated Alternator Conversion
This is a spin off from the excellent post in the FAQ on how to do this:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=119379 There were several replies to getting a higher amp alternator, I checked the 83-87, 92amp version and it was $79 and I didn't like the new style pulley. I remembered that they made internal voltage regulated alternators for a really long time and parts for my 74 Monte Carlo were always dirt cheap, so I asked and the alternator for a 74 Monte was $35 for a lifetime alt. Yes it is only the older 63amp version but they have powered all my old Chevy's just fine and I have no power accessories and still need to fix my back brakes, power steering, oil leak, etc, etc, etc, ![]() So, I bought it and using the same instructions above everything worked great, and I got rid of my power drain that was in the external regulator! ![]()
