Junkyard score
So I was out and about Sunday and decided to swing by a local wrecking yard...just to see what they had. Knowing they specialize in late model vehicles, I wasn't expecting to find much. Well, to my surprise, they had ONE 73-87 there...it was a '87 GMC 4wd. So I walked up to it and immediately noticed it had a complete black interior in it! Once I quit oogling over the seat belts, I snooped around a little more and discovered these little gems behind the seat. These are 6x9 speaker enclosures, made of aluminum, and they looked and fit perfect in the cab corners! They were held in place with rivits (in the same location the factory 4x10's are screwed to), and other than being dirty and having a bad paint job, they appeared to be in great shape. I was soo excited I found these I could hardly wait to go back after work on Monday to retrieve them (I got there just before closing on Sunday...with no tools). So, Monday after work I went back...and as luck would have it...they were still there. However, someone had been there during the day and tried to remove them..they must not have had their drill with them to drill out the rivits, and they were still there waiting for me...talk about luck!
So, anyhow, has anyone else seen a set like this? Are these aftermarket brackets made by a mfr...or do you think these were fabbed by a private party? Regardless, they will be going in Yeller...after they are cleaned up and painted. I might go ahead and transfer the dimensions of the brackets in CAD and see if I can't reproduce a set or two of these. Oh, and I did grab the seatbelts too.
