Mounting 12 bolt rear into a '60 PU

The rearend in my '60 1/2ton PU is apparently out of a late 60's PU. While the rearend was also from a coil spring truck, apparently my '60's trailing arms have a wider track and could not mount to the later model pads on the rear. The previous owner solved this by putting a U-bolt over the axle and into the trailing arms then proceeded to weld the U-bolt to the axle housing vigorously. He also partialy cut the old pads off. I have a 12 bolt rear out of a '73 1/2 ton with a rear leafspring. I need to find or make new pads to mount the new rear to the trailing arms. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Robert
