What would you do???

Ok, here is my problem... I REALLY need a ol truck to work with so I don't tear up my 04 any more lol. I have come to the realization that by the time I am satisfied with either of my old trucks that it may take me a year to get it ready..... So what I was thinking what I would do was get my 76 parts truck running and bomb around with it... It is a 6cyl 3 on the tree truck.. It was on the road about 6 months ago.. The PO owner ran it hot and blew or cracked the head gasket. It runs but its got water in the oil and it skips. So this is my question to you... would you pull the head, and possibly replace it depending on if its cracked/warped or the other option would be stick a stock 350 in it that I have laying around... I think the gearing would be too low with a v8 but I dunno. The only other option would be my buying the clean 86 SWB with 76k original miles that I found today for 2k. It just need a fresh coat of paint to be really nice. and removal of the visor and fender skirts lol
