Detroit Autorama - unimpressed?
Went to the Detrot Autorama and I guess I have to say that I wasn't impressed. Oh, the big boys' show cars were neat. But when your chromed zoomie headers run down thru zero clearance notches in your fenders and then back up thru zero clearance notches in the outer edges ot the same fenders, it's not really a driveable car, is it?
There was exactly 1 squarebody, a slammed blacked out dually. There were 2 67-72's. There was a barn find Yenko Nova, and a nice Cameo, and a really cool 40's GMC with a big diesel stuffed in it. But there were more 70-89's psychadelic vans than trucks. Guess I was unimpressed that food and vendor space was about the same floor space as cars. Now I really appreciate the local show that draws 400+ cars that almost all are driven there. Sure is nice to pay the $5 versus the $15 too. BTW weird shades of orange, yellow, green, and cream abounded. And many examples of how not to paint metallics. I now have much more respect for those that can get the flake to lay even.
